About Us ... Shrewd Productions is committed creating
theatre that is well-produced, thoughtful, provocative, and entertaining.
Championing unique perspectives and emerging artists, Shrewd is focused
on women's voices, new plays, and work developed though a collaborative
artistic approach. Shrewd Productions is proud to be a member of the
Austin New Works Theatre Community, building Austin's professional theatre
community devoted to the development of original work. Shrewd's past productions include the world premiere of The Long Now by Beth Burns (nominated for 3 B. Iden Payne awards and winner of Best Original Script); the original rock musical Io: a myth about you by Monika Bustamante (nominated for 4 Austin Critics’ Table Awards including Best Production of a Musical and Best New Play, winning Best Lead Actor); Where Are They Now? A Fantasy Based on a True Crime by Cyndi Williams - a collaborative, commissioned piece that garnered 6 Austin Critics’ Table nominations and took home the Award for Best Production of a Drama and Best Supporting Actress; the world premiere of Stillborn: a bedtime story; the annual favorite, X-mas Unwrapped: A Holiday Burlesque; Cheater, a collaboration involving 10 playwrights from Austin and beyond; Trash Anthems, a collection of the short works of playwright Dan Dietz; and Kidnapped by Craigslist, a co-production with New York based playwright Katie Goan. Shrewd's most recent endeavors include Shrewd Summer Nights, a series of 3 staged reading events of works-in-progress by playwrights Monika Bustamante, Sarah Saltwick and Jenny Connell; and the production of MilkMilkLemonade by Joshua Conkel, which received 5 Austin Theatre Examiner nominations and 4 Austin Critics' Table nominations including Best Production of a Comedy, winning Best Cosmetic Metamorphosis and Best Supporting Actor.
