AYLI Artist Profile: Taylor Flanagan
Taylor Flanagan plays Le Beau, Amiens, William and Hymen in Shrewd's upcoming production of As You Like It.
Why did you decide to participate in Shrewd's As You Like It - Shakespeare: REPRESENT?
When I got offered the role of Amiens, I was very excited, because he gets to participate in so much of the music, and the songs are one of my favorite aspects of this show. And then I found out about the rest of the cast and I thought: "Holy smokes! This is going to be phenomenal."
The concept of the show is fresh while still being true to the original piece. Too often when someone says they're making a "new take" on Shakespeare, what they create is either the same old thing set in a different era or it has been altered beyond recognition. I'm excited to say that this is not the case with Lily Wolff at the helm.
About Taylor
Though she is new to Shrewd Productions, Taylor Flanagan has been studying and participating in Theatre in one way or another for about twenty years, and has been very lucky to work with many other wonderful theatre companies in Austin.
Recently you may have seen her B. Iden Payne award-winning portrayal of Gabrielle York in When the Rain Stops Falling or caught her stint as the vampire-fighting Mina in Different Stages' Dracula.
When she's not onstage, she teaches Spanish and Theatre at ATA College Prep, spends time with the best husband on the planet, and annoys their grumpy tortoise and crabby cat.
Taylor's next projects are playing Lady Anne in Richard III and Joan in The Lark (both with the Baron's Men) in April and May.
